TBS (1 M, pH 7.4) Preparation and Recipe
Tris-Buffered Saline (TBS) is a popular isotonic buffer used for multiple applications, including as a washing buffer in immunoassays of all kinds. It is one of the default buffers for antibody preparation. For other antibody preparation materials, click here.
To prepare L of TBS (1 M, pH 7.4):

Sodium chloride (mw: 58.44 g/mol) | 8 g | 0.137 M |
Potassium Chloride (mw: 74.55 g/mol) | 0.2 g | 0.00268 M |
Tris base (mw: 121.14 g/mol) | 3 g | 0.0248 M |
- Prepare 800 mL of dH2O in a suitable container.
- Add 8 g of Sodium chloride to the solution.
- Add 0.2 g of Potassium Chloride to the solution.
- Add 3 g of Tris base to the solution.
- Adjust solution to desired pH with HCl (typically 7.4).
- Add dH2O until the volume is 1 L.
