Answer
The significance of ferroptosis lies in its potential to be used in the treatment of neurological diseases.
Ferroptosis is a new form of regulated cell death that is characterized by the accumulation of lipid peroxides to toxic levels, and failure of the cell’s antioxidant defense mechanisms. Current research suggests that ferroptosis plays a bidirectional role in neurological diseases and is involved in the pathophysiological progress of many diseases including nervous system disease, cancers, kidney damage, and cardiovascular diseases.
