What are the applications of chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-Seq)?

Posted July 16, 2024

Answer

Chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing or ChIP-Seq has several applications. It helps researchers identify specific DNA sequences that are bound to proteins of interest in vivo.

ChIP-Seq is one of the most powerful techniques available to explore protein-DNA interactions. This has enabled researchers to get a better understanding of how transcription factors regulate genes based on the presence of other transcription factors at the same location, distance of transcription factor from the transcription start site, and degeneracy of the binding site. This understanding could potentially be used to regulate genetic events in diseases and biological pathways.
