How does centrifugation work?

Posted May 9, 2024

Answer

Centrifugation works on the principle of sedimentation, in which substances are subjected to a gravitational force which separates them based on their density. When a mixture is placed in a centrifuge and spun rapidly, lighter particles remain on top while the heavier particles sink to the bottom, thus allowing for separation of the components in the mixture.
