What is reduced representation bisulfite sequencing (RRBS)?

Posted April 26, 2024

Answer

Reduced representation bisulfite sequencing (RRBS) is a technique for examining DNA methylation across the genome with single-nucleotide precision. It combines high-throughput DNA sequencing with the treatment of DNA using sodium bisulfite. RRBS uses one or more restriction enzymes on the genomic DNA to break it into smaller, sequence-specific fragments. This technique is a modified version of whole genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS) that narrows down the analysis to specific regions of the genome where most DNA methylation occurs.
