What is the significance of reduced representation sequencing?

Answer
Reduced representation sequencing (RRS) sequences only a fraction of the genome (typically CpG-rich regions) which significantly simplifies the process and resulting dataset compared to whole-genome approaches. This also makes it more cost-effective. This approach is valuable for various applications in population genetics, molecular breeding, and other research fields. It also enables the development of molecular markers, construction of genetic maps and the mapping of quantitative trait loci (QTL).
