What happens during apoptosis?

Posted August 14, 2024

Answer

Apoptosis, also known as programmed cell death, is a regulated process that allows cells to self-destruct when they are no longer needed or are damaged. A cell that goes through apoptosis dies without harming surrounding cells. It shrinks and becomes more compact. The cell's internal structure collapses, the nuclear envelope disassembles, and the DNA within the nucleus breaks into pieces.
