What are the similarities between promoters and enhancers?
Posted January 23, 2023
There are various similarities between promoters and enhancers. One similarity is that they are both-gene regulatory elements. Promoters are DNA regions within 1-2 kb of a gene’s transcription start site that initiates transcription. Enhancers activate transcription of a gene to an increased and higher level. Both promoters and enhancers bind with site-specific transcription factors to generate cell type identity and regulate gene expression. They are associated with specific chromatin factors such as DNA methylation, histone modifications, and DNA looping. Another similarity is that both promoters and enhancers are nucleotide sequences. They also occur in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes.
