Advantages of agarose gel: 

• Is easy to make, pour and handle as the gel setting is a physical change rather than a chemical change
• Is nontoxic 
• Can be easily refrigerated in a plastic film or bag
• Relatively short setting time of 30 to 60 minutes
• Easy to recover samples from the gel
• Does not denature samples
• Resolution and run times can be altered easily by using different buffers
• Pore sizes can be manipulated to increase or decrease molecular sieving
• Can be used to separate a large range of DNA sizes
