Where is chromatin found?

Posted July 28, 2023

Answer

Chromatin is found within the nucleus of eukaryotic cells. Nuclear DNA does not exist as free linear strands; rather, it is highly condensed and wrapped around nuclear proteins to fit inside the nucleus. Histones are responsible for packaging the massive amount of DNA in a genome into a highly compact form. In prokaryotes, euchromatin is the only type of chromatin they have. Since prokaryotes do not have a nucleus, their euchromatin is located within the nucleoid.
