What is the significance of peroxisome proteins?

Posted October 2, 2023

Answer

Peroxisome proteins are involved in lipid metabolism, helping to break down fatty acids and detoxify harmful substances in the cell. They also contribute to the synthesis bile acids, which are essential for the absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A and K. Peroxisome proteins are also responsible for the regulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which helps to maintain cellular redox homeostasis.
