What are the similarities between peroxisomes and mitochondria?

Posted October 2, 2023

Answer

Peroxisomes and mitochondria are two types of membrane-bound organelles found in the cytoplasm of all eukaryotic cells. They both range in size from 0.1 to 1.0 μm (micrometer). Both organelles share several similarities in terms of enzymatic reactions and both are involved in oxidizing fatty acids through a beta oxidation process. Both, peroxisomes and mitochondria reproduce by growth and fission.
