What is the significance of diffusion and osmosis?

Posted August 26, 2024

Answer

Both diffusion and osmosis play crucial roles in balancing forces within cells and throughout an organism. They help distribute essential chemicals and nutrients from areas of high concentration to areas of lower concentration, ensuring uniform distribution inside the organism. This mechanism also ensures that these essential substances reach cells and tissues that need them, facilitating proper physiological function throughout the body.  Additionally, by regulating the movement of water and solutes, osmosis and diffusion help maintain proper fluid balance, which is crucial for cellular function and homeostasis.
