What is the role of osteogenic cells in bone repair?

Posted June 17, 2024

Answer

Osteogenic or osteoprogenitor cells are undifferentiated stem cells of the bone. When there is any injury or damage to bone, the osteogenic cells react to the stimuli by dividing and differentiating into osteoblasts, which are a type of bone-forming cells that play a key role in healing broken or damaged bones.

Osteoblasts also give rise to other bone cells such as osteocytes that help maintain bone structure by regulating mineral concentration of the matrix.
