What is the function of TE buffer in DNA extraction?

Posted October 3, 2022

Answer

The primary function of TE buffer in DNA extraction is to solubilize DNA while protecting it from enzymatic lysis. This ensures that a pure DNA solution is obtained for use in other studies. It is commonly used in storing, eluting, washing and dissolving DNA in all types of laboratory processes that involve DNA extraction. DNA extraction requires a highly specialized buffer system that is capable of two things - solubilizing the DNA while at the same time preventing it from degrading. TE buffer, also known as Tris-EDTA buffer, is one such buffer and is usually the top choice in DNA extraction processes.
