What is physical cross-linking?

Answer
Physical cross-linking is the formation of a bond between polymer chains through weak physical interactions. These interactions include coordination bonding, hydrogen bonding, ionic interactions, and van der Waals interactions. Because they are weak interactions, their bonds have low durability, and in consequence are unstable mechanically and thermally. Some substances that form physical cross-linked gels are collagen, agarose, gelatin, and agar.
