What is immunology?

Immunology is a branch of biology that encompasses the study of the immune system, from its individual components and biological processes to its physiological functioning, disorders, and more. 

The immune system acts as the body’s defense mechanism, protecting the cells, tissues, and organs from invading pathogens and infections using various lines of defense. Failure in the functioning of the immune system can result in different types of diseases including allergies, autoimmunity, and cancer.
