What is a hypotonic solution?

Posted August 26, 2024

Answer

A hypotonic solution is one where the concentration of solutes is lower than that inside the cells of the body. When a cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, water will move into the cell since the solution outside has fewer dissolved substances and more water compared to inside the cell. As a result, the cell will increase in size.
