What happens during necrosis?

Posted August 14, 2024

Answer

Necrosis is the death of cells within body tissues, which can be caused by injuries, diseases, infections, or factors like reduced blood flow and extreme environmental conditions. During necrosis, the cell membrane becomes disrupted, leading to the leakage of cellular contents into the surrounding tissue. This causes inflammation and damage to neighboring cells. Although dead tissue can be surgically removed, it cannot be restored to a healthy state.
