What are the types of acid-base titration?
Posted October 10, 2023
There are four types of acid-base titrations: strong acid-strong base titration, weak acid-strong base titration, strong acid-weak base titration, and weak acid-weak base titration. Strong acid-strong base titration is one of the less sophisticated complex titrations among the four types. Strong acids and strong bases are separated in water, inducing a strong acid-strong base balance mechanism. The proportionality point occurs when the moles of acid and base are equal, and the pH is 7.0. Titration of HCl (strong acid) with sodium hydroxide (strong base) to bring sodium chloride and water is an example of this type of titration. Phenolphthalein is typically the preferred indicator for this titration because of its more easily seen color change. Strong acid-weak base titration is used to produce an acidic arrangement. A type of acid is generated during the titration, which then functions with water to make hydronium particles. The pH is under 7 at the proportionally point of this type of titration.
