What are the similarities between reporter genes and selectable markers?

Answer
Reporter genes and selectable markers are two types of marker genes that help to analyze transformants (transformed genes) in studies that produce transgenic organisms. Neither one is found in the host cell under normal circumstances. Both are considered foreign to the host cell. Both types of marker genes are transformed into the host organism along with the gene of interest.
