Answer

Dilute acids are solutions of water and acid that have a relatively low concentration of acid. Overall, the properties of dilute acids are similar to that of concentrated acids, but dilute acids have a few properties that are distinct from that of concentrated acids.

Properties of dilute acids:

  • Have a sour taste, which is characteristic of acidic substances
  • Are usually colorless liquids except for a few that have distinct colors
  • Have a lower pH than pure water, which is indicative of their acidic nature
  • Can react with bases, forming salts and water
  • Can conduct electricity due to the presence of free hydrogen ions
  • Can corrode certain materials including metals and some plastics
