What are the key features of protoplasm?

Posted June 17, 2024

Answer

In eukaryotic cells, protoplasm consists of cytoplasm (outside the nucleus) and nucleoplasm (inside the nucleus). The organic components of protoplasm include proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids. Non-organic components of protoplasm include water (which makes up the majority of the protoplasm's mass), ions, inorganic compounds like O2 and CO2, and essential inorganic minerals such as Fe and Mg. The protoplasm is capable of adjusting its internal environment. It also aids in cell division and cellular repair processes.
