Answer
Bases are aqueous solutions and are also electrolytes. They can be either strong or weak. They can alter the color of indicators. For example, litmus turns blue when reacting with a base and phenolphthalein turns fuschia. Bases have a pH that is greater than 7, and do not react with metals in the manner acids do. Bases do not have the ability to corrode metals like acids can, but can still corrode tissue. Additionally, bases tend to have a bitter taste in foods. As a solution, bases have a soapy, slippery texture when touched due to their ability to react with oils and fats. Bases also react with acids to form water and salt, and form OH- ions when they dissociate into water.
