Posted June 4, 2024

Answer

RFLP has a wide range of applications in a variety of settings. It can be used to:

  • Identify the source of a DNA sample in forensic applications such as criminal investigations or paternity tests
  • Detect mutations in order to determine an individual’s disease status
  • Characterize genetic diversity or breeding patterns in animal populations
  • Measure recombination rates in the loci between restriction sites
  • Map genomes to identify and differentiate organisms
