What are the advantages of the dye dilution assays for the quantitative analysis of cell proliferation?

Posted September 11, 2024

Answer

The dye dilution assay is a quick and straightforward method for labeling cells that can be used across all cell types. This assay also enables the simultaneous analysis of cell proliferation for multiple cell types in the same culture, which is not possible with traditional proliferation assays. It allows for the observation of changes in cellular traits, such as surface markers, cell death and protein production, at the level of individual cells. This is particularly useful in in vitro models that involve multiple cell types. Additionally, a dye dilution assay uses fluorescent tracking dyes that remain within cells and become more diluted with each cell division.
