What are the advantages of each type of fluorescent reporter used in qPCR?

Posted June 19, 2024

Answer

One advantage is that dyes like SYBR Green bind to any double-stranded DNA, allowing detection of a wide range of PCR products without the need for sequence-specific probes. Dyes are also generally less expensive than labeled primers or probes. Labeled primers or probes offer specificity and allow for multiplexing by using probes with different colored fluorescent dyes. It increases throughput by detecting multiple sequences in the same qPCR reaction.
