Are striated muscles voluntary or involuntary?

Posted June 25, 2024

Answer

Skeletal muscle fibers can appear red or white and have a striped appearance due to their structure. Thus, they are known as striated muscles. The appearance of skeletal muscle fibers also is characterized by alternating dark and light bands that run across the fiber in a transverse direction. Striated muscles are voluntary. However, some striated muscles (e.g. cardiac muscle) are under involuntary control as it contracts rhythmically to pump blood throughout the body.
