HLA class I histocompatibility antigen, α chain G is a 44 kDa transmembrane protein that can be expressed in the plasma membrane, integral component of lumenal side of endoplasmic reticulum membrane and MHC class I protein complex of cells. It is also known as MHC class I antigen G and HLA G antigen. In Homo sapiens, HLA class I histocompatibility antigen, α chain G plays an important role in organismal processes, in particular, cellular defense response, antigen processing and presentation of endogenous peptide antigen via MHC class Ib and protection from natural killer cell mediated cytotoxicity. It recognizes peptide antigen, signaling receptor and CD8 receptor.
