Purified Mouse Anti-human α-Fetoprotein Antibody *AFP-01, monoclonal*
α-fetoprotein (also known as α-1-fetoprotein or α-fetoglobulin) is a protein with a molecular weight of 69 kDa, found in the cytoplasm, endoplasmic reticulum lumen and extracellular space of cells. It is thought to be essential to organismal processes, in particular, ovulation from ovarian follicle, cellular protein metabolic process and progesterone metabolic process. Sequencing of α-fetoprotein has shown it contains 3 conserved structural units: albumin 1, albumin 2 and albumin 3 domain. α-fetoprotein binds with zinc ion and fatty acid. Mutations and abnormalities in α-fetoprotein have been thought to be involved with a number of diseases, for instance, α-fetoprotein, hereditary persistence (HPAFP) and α-fetoprotein deficiency (AFPD).
