Why are T-cells important?

Posted August 18, 2023

Answer

T-cells are a type of white blood cell called T lymphocytes. They are a crucial component of the adaptive immune system and play a central role in recognizing and eliminating foreign invaders, such as viruses, bacteria, and abnormal cells.

They coordinate and regulate the immune response, helping the body defend against infections and malignancy while maintaining overall immune health. T-cells are particularly important because of their ability to establish immunological memory, which enables the immune system to mount faster and more effective responses upon re-exposure to previously encountered pathogens.
