Where is ATP made in the cell?

ATP is made in the mitochondria, which are referred to as the powerhouse of the eukaryotic cell. ATP production occurs through a complex reaction resulting from the proton gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane, which occurs during cellular respiration. 

ATP molecules are the primary energy source for crucial biological functions including protein synthesis, cell signaling, structural maintenance, muscle contraction, and active transport among others.
