Where does ATP synthesis occur?

Answer
In humans, ATP synthesis occurs in the mitochondrial complex. Within the mitochondrial matrix, ATP is converted from ADP by harnessing the energy created by the proton electrochemical gradient. The ATP serves as an energy source for different cellular functions like transporting ions, transmitting nerve impulses, muscle contractions, chemical synthesis, and substrate phosphorylation. ATP synthesis also occurs within chloroplasts in plants.
