Liquid droplets are formed from the endoplasmic reticulum.
Triglycerides and other neutral lipids that are formed in the endoplasmic reticulum gather together in localized regions of the membrane that grow towards the cytosol. These eventually bud off into lipid droplets, which act as crucial hubs of energy metabolism.
