Free ribosomes are located in the cytosol. They are suspended in this aqueous medium and are able to move anywhere around the cell. Free ribosomes are non-membranous organelles made up of ribosomal RNA and protein. They synthesize proteins that are released into the cytosol for the cell’s own use.
