When does enzyme inhibition occur?

Enzyme inhibition occurs when certain substances known as inhibitors bind to enzymes, inactivating them in the process. When an enzyme is inactivated, or inhibited, it is unable to bind to its substrate, which effectively slows down or completely stops a chemical reaction.
