What is the structure of ATP?

Answer
ATP stands for Adenosine Triphosphate. It is composed of 3 main components:
- The pentose sugar molecule, ribose, which lies at the center of the ATP molecule
- The nitrogenous base adenine, which is attached to the first carbon of the pentose sugar molecule
- Three phosphate groups, which are attached in a chain formation to the 5th carbon of the pentose sugar
The three components are linked together into a single molecule through condensation reactions.
