What is the significance of an amino group in biochemistry?

Amino groups are key components of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. Each amino acid contains an amino group, which, along with a carboxyl group, determines its structure and function. Peptide bonds are also created by amino groups through a reaction between the carboxyl group of one amino acid and the amino group of another. Additionally, amino groups are present in neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine. Lastly,  amino groups are basic in nature, and help regulate the appropriate pH balance necessary for life. They can accept and donate protons, which helps maintain stable pH levels within cells and tissues.
