What is RMP?

Answer
RMP stands for resting membrane potential. It refers to the electrical potential difference between the extracellular and intracellular environments under resting conditions. It is also referred to as transmembrane potential, transmembrane potential gradient or simply as membrane potential.
The RMP is influenced by two main factors - the uneven distribution of ions across the cell membrane (inside and outside the cell) and by the varying permeability of the membrane to various ions.
