What is immunogenicity?

Posted July 31, 2024

Answer

Immunogenicity is the ability of an antigen-containing substance to trigger an immune response against that substance.

The immune system recognizes antigens on surfaces of substances it identifies as foreign, such as cancer cells, bacteria, viruses, or vaccines. On recognizing these antigens, the immune system mounts an immune response against them. The strength of an immune response depends on how immunogenic a substance is.
