Answer
All bases share some common characteristics. One characteristic is that they tend to be bitter in taste. Additionally, bases release OH- ions as a byproduct after dissolving in water. All bases also have the ability to conduct electricity due to the presence of ions in their solution. They are efficient electrolytes. Bases all have a greater pH than 7, and become neutralized after reacting with acids. Bases do not have the ability to corrode metals, but can still corrode tissue. Lastly, as solutions, all bases have a soapy, slippery texture when touched due to their ability to react with oils and fats.
