What determines a cell's function?

Answer
The function of cells is regulated by the specific proteins and mRNA they contain. The genes that are active (expressed) in a cell regulate the production of specific proteins. Gene expression is tightly regulated and varies between cell types, influencing cellular functions. Different types of cells perform distinct roles because their structure is closely linked to their function. For instance, cells with thin structures are not well-suited for protective functions, while bone cells lack the necessary structure for conducting nerve impulses.
