What are the products of fatty acid oxidation?

Posted July 19, 2022

Answer

Fatty acid oxidation involves breaking down fatty acyl-CoA chains to produce energy. The end products of fatty acid oxidation include acetyl-CoA, FADH2, NADH, water and one acyl-CoA chain that is two carbons shorter. The acetyl-CoA enters the Krebs or citric acid cycle with FADH2 and NADH to yield ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is used for energy.
