Bases have very distinctive physical properties that set them apart from acids. Bases feel soapy or slippery to the touch and have a bitter taste. They conduct electricity when dissolved in water.
Bases turn red litmus paper blue but do not change the color of blue litmus paper. They turn pink when Phenolphthalein is added to the solution.
