What are the functions of necroptosis?

Posted May 17, 2024

Answer

Necroptosis has several functions in the body. It can lead to uncontrolled inflammation, causing tissue damage and chronic diseases, including cancer growth. However, it also serves as a defense mechanism, fighting pathogens and tumors by triggering strong inflammation. Additionally, necroptosis is crucial during tissue regeneration and development. Necroptosis contributes to tissue regeneration by clearing damaged cells and promoting the recruitment of immune cells to the site of injury. During embryonic development, necroptosis is involved in sculpting  tissues and organs by eliminating excess or unwanted cells. Necroptosis also has functions in the regulation of T cell proliferation, and the management of chronic intestinal inflammation.
