What are the examples of aseptic technique?

There are various examples of aseptic techniques, ranging from basic methods to more advanced procedures. One example of a simple aseptic technique is using alcohol to clean the skin of bacteria. Before doing medical procedures, all medical personnel wash their hands with soap and running water for at least a minute and all surfaces being used are also sterilized. Wearing sterile gloves, masks, and gowns are also required during these procedures, as they reduce the chances of contamination for the patient and limit exposure to body fluids for the medical doctor. Additionally, medical devices such as intravenous cannulas should always be sterilized since they lose their sterility after becoming disconnected from fluids and remaining in place. 

There are also many types of aseptic techniques in microbiology. One common example is to not eat or drink in the laboratory. Another example is to clean and disinfect lab surfaces before use. Additionally, one should minimize the time media or cultures are exposed to air. An additional example is to use sterile loops for transferring cultures. One should also keep petri dishes closed when not in use, and sterilize or dispose of used equipment. Culture bottle necks should also be flamed to prevent contamination. One should also avoid growing microorganisms at body temperature, and to avoid respirating on cultures or sterile instruments.
