Answer

There are various types of aseptic techniques including: sterile, standard, and surgical aseptic techniques.

  1. Sterile technique is the most stringent form of aseptic technique, and aims for an environment entirely devoid of germs. It is utilized in surgeries and extensive procedures to prevent infections which may be very harmful to patients. This technique requires a sterile room, gowns, gloves, masks, caps, and thorough handwashing.
  2. Standard aseptic technique is the most commonly used type for procedures like dialysis or IV insertions. It involves hand washing, gloves and masks, and smaller sterile fields.
  3. Surgical aseptic technique is another stringent method; it's used for complex or lengthy procedures and involves everything in sterile technique except for the operating room. This technique is used for procedures that are long, complicated, and involve many parts of the body.
