What are the advantages of the LAMP method?

LAMP (loop-mediated isothermal amplification is a DNA amplification technique that offers several advantages over PCR (polymerase chain reaction), which is a more traditional DNA amplification technology. Advantages of the LAMP method include: 

●       DNA amplification occurs with greater efficiency at isothermal conditions (constant temperature of 63 to 65°C) 

●       Enables specific amplification by designing 4 primers to recognize 6 distinct regions on the target gene

●       No requirement for thermal denaturation of double stranded DNA

●       Amplification and detection is far more rapid than conventional DNA amplification techniques such as PCR

●       Is cheaper than other DNA amplification methods because there is no need for sophisticated equipment or special reagents

●       Can be used to amplify RNA templates with the addition of reverse transcriptase
