What are the advantages of RT-LAMP technology?
Posted June 21, 2022
The biggest advantage of RT-LAMP technology is that it allows for higher amplification efficiency. This is because the reaction is carried out under constant temperature so no time is lost waiting for thermal changes. RT-LAMP (Reverse Transcription-Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification) produces results in less than an hour, whereas traditional PCR can take as much as 3 to 4 hours. The high specificity and selectivity for the target genetic material is another significant advantage of RT-LAMP technology. RT-LAMP has higher specificity, with no false-positive results reported. In some assays RT-LAMP was found to be ten times more sensitive than conventional RT-PCR experiments. Another advantage of RT-LAMP technology is that it is far more cost-effective than other DNA amplification methods because it does not require sophisticated, expensive equipment. This is particularly important for the viability of broad-scale use of this technology.
