What are the advantages of CAR-T cell therapy?

Posted July 9, 2024

Answer

One advantage of CAR T-cell therapy is in terms of treatment time, which typically requires only a single infusion that may necessitate up to two weeks of inpatient care. CAR T-cell therapy is also considered a "living drug" because the genetically engineered T-cells introduced into the body can persist for a long time. This persistence allows them to potentially recognize and attack cancer cells if the cancer relapses. Additionally, clinical trials focusing on blood cancers have demonstrated that CAR T-cell therapy can induce remissions lasting several years in patients who experienced relapses despite undergoing multiple prior treatments.
